Jeff just called and said they will not be coming home this week. Devastated is not a strong enough word.
The girls had their medical check-up today and evidently Sarah's medical history says she tested + for TB at some point. The Embassy Dr. refused to sign off on her medical exam and will not let her come home. Sarah has no symptoms what-so-ever but the Dr. ordered a chest x-ray anyway and believes she saw a gray spot so now Sarah has to go through a 3-day sputum testing starting on Monday. Jeff will be in Ukraine with the kids for at least another week.
If they still refuse to let her come home after the 3-day sputum testing, we are facing months of treatment in Ukraine before they will let her come home.
**Please pray that the positive test is just a normal reaction to Sarah's TB vaccination and that the 3-day sputum testing will be negative. All children in Ukraine receive the TB vaccination and it is our understanding from what we have researched and have been told by US doctors, that many people who have received the TB vaccination will test positive via the PPD TB test since they now have the TB antibodies in their systems but they do not have active TB.
**Please pray that we do not face months of treatment in Ukraine. We knew Jeff would use up all his vacation time and a couple of weeks of FMLA without pay for this adoption so we planned ahead and budgeted for that. However, if he has to stay much longer, we will literally run out of money since he is the sole breadwinner in our family.

Happy Gotcha day! So sorry to hear about the TB issue. They almost held us up there too b/c Dariya had a positive reaction a year before. But, we think it was the vaccination. They did 4 xrays and didn't really clear her but did enough to come home but they were considering sending us for the sedated testing. Her xrays at home 3 days later were perfectly clear. Praying that all goes well with the first round of tests and they can all come home. We know about the unpaid leave time/breadwinner thing too.

We are living this nightmare from here in the US, I can't imagine doing this from Ukraine! I will be praying that your husband can bring your sweet girls home very soon!
If you need to know anything about the process please feel free to drop me a line :) Also, be prepared for the possibility that your local health department will be invasive once your girls do come home - this was a MAJOR shock for me personally.
